I have endeavoured to capture the languid pose of a woman awakening but have made it into something more than a purely sensual thing, as my Aurora possesses the power of sun and earth, bringing light to darkness. Though she is reclining sensually, she brings up the sun simply by awakening and stretching. Power is intrinsic to her; it is part of her very being. Her beauty too is natural and awesome, like that of the rising sun, not something to be covered over in shame and a force that resists dismissive sexualization. The metallic patina, which I have created myself, seeks to capture the mixed rose and blue colours of early morning. As the sunrise, Dawn's hand remains just a little brighter. Rosy-Fingered Dawn
is available as well upon request in bronze.

Tithonus, Dawn's husband, was supposedly victimized by the gods who granted him immortality at the request of Aurora but not eternal youth. Thus, he gradually wasted away until his wife turned him into a grasshopper out of pity. |
